This chapter opens with a conversation between Hiroshi and Hiroshi's younger sister, Minamoto. Minamoto tells Hiroshi that she is afraid of being disliked by other students because she is so popular. She tells him that she became scared of high school girls because she was scared of being hated by them. She asks Minamoto what she should do to prepare herself for her third year of teaching. She says that she should prepare herself to be a good teacher. She also tells her that she has to prepare for her exams. She explains that she wants to be an excellent teacher because she believes that people who are good at something end up being bad at it. She then tells Minamoto that Minamoto's older sister has beaten her brother in the Karuta Club. She is a skinny girl, but she has a solid core. She has confidence in herself and in her own Karuta team. She adds that she had a double-up at the recent tournament and was a mess. She decides to join her team because she thinks that she can beat the captain of the team.
