In this chapter, we are introduced to a number of characters who have been introduced in the previous chapters. The first of these characters is Luke, who is a maniac. He has broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a broken neck. He asks his wife to help him escape. She refuses, saying that she cannot stand it anymore. He tells her that he does not think she should be killed, but that she can kill him if she pleases. She tells him that he is not the only crazy person in the world, that there is no difference between evil and good, and that he has already made enemies in his age. Luke tells his wife that she is still alive, and he asks her if she enjoys resisting him
