In this short scene, we learn that we're about to witness the most important scene in the play. It's the one where the audience realizes what's going to happen to Poinskov when he realizes that he's about to be killed. He can't figure out how to react to the noise and danger around him. He's also about to lose control of his emotions. He won't be able to think rationally, and he'll just feel angry and frustrated. This is just the beginning of what we'll see in the rest of the scene.
