The narrator explains that he wants a girl more than a boy because he thinks he's going to be born a boy. He's about to be admitted to the hospital, so he wants to speak to his son while he is in labor. The narrator shows the boy their house, which isn't very big, but it's nice because the mother is an artist. They're saving money now, so they can buy a bigger house when the baby needs a room of his own. They also have baby bottles, baby pacifiers, and various other baby items to make sure they're all set for the baby's arrival. This is the first time the narrator has seen the baby, and the narrator doesn't know if he'll be able to take care of the child. He says he can just leave the parenting to his father. He and his wife have been married for three years now, and they've been taking the baby everywhere they go.
