In this chapter, the reader is introduced to the concept of the "imagination" or "Id" . The id is an emotion that follows the desires of the heart and the ego is bound by the "boring morals" of the soul. In other words, the ego tries to balance the interests of the self with those of the other. The narrator explains that people are complicated, but complicated people are destined to be "sub-par". It is time to kill off one part of one's body.
