This chapter opens with a discussion between jingji and tu xie, the high wizard and the fox fairy. The fox fairy is concerned that the jinks will not be able to attack the city because of the flash flood. The high wizard wants to return to the city to correct the situation. He tells the jingjin to bring the fairy here. Otherwise, he says, they will have to retreat twenty miles away from the city, and they will suffer heavy losses if they fight against them to the bottom of the city. The jingjing says that the best thing to do is to hand the fairy over to the prince. He says that he knows that the prince cannot hand over hong su easily, and that this will be the best chance for jinji to destroy the su family in the future. He also says that if he can use this opportunity, he can make the war between the two kingdoms escalate and cause civil war.
