About This Chapter
This chapter opens with the narrator lamenting the fact that she is spending the rest of her life with a husband who is "moody and violent" . He apologizes to her for his behavior, and she accepts his apology. He tells her that everyone thinks that she will become a nun, and that marrying him is her only solution at the present time. He says that he is taking responsibility for his actions, and he promises to marry her. He explains that he did not expect that the first person in the world to propose to him would actually be her, but that he does not expect her to be him either. Both lifestyles are like widows, he says, and both lifestyles are "full of the unexpected". He tells his father that they cannot get married, and they will break off the wedding when the matter has been settled. They will make it clear to each other that their value is different from that of others, and then it will be easier for them to get married later. His daughter has found her "ideal husband" and they are "blessed by the buddha". He plans to cover the expenses of the wedding, but he will have to find a "te indulging in fantasy". He sees that his daughter has been visiting the second master, and has even prepared food for him. He has been thinking there is something wrong with the proposal that day, but now he sees that it is just his "wishful thinking".
