This chapter opens with a conversation between the father and his daughter. The father asks his daughter if she is destined for greatness. She replies that wine is poison and sex is "a blade that scrapes bones". The father tells his daughter not to drink and not to overindulge in sex. He also tells her that the Buddha did not intend to make people free of sex, but to make them moderate in their behavior. He says that sex is a normal part of human nature and that it helps to foster a healthy relationship. He tells the daughter that he will beat her to the punch if she tries to win him by any means.
