This chapter opens with a description of a "little chubby civet" . It's a female who's been "possessed" by a baby that died of hunger, so she's got a big appetite and can "eat humans." The narrator notes that this is not the first time he's seen this kind of thing, but it's the first he'd seen it in person. He's also the first person to see it in a book, so he figures it must be cute. The narrator tells us that the female is called "Futakuchi onna" , which means "little panda" in Japanese. She has a big mouth and can eat humans, but the narrator doesn't think she sounds like any of the books. He says she looks cute, but not frightening. He tells the narrator to get an imperial physician to come and check on her. She's having a fever, because there's still some poison in her system. He gives her medicine to lower her temperature and tells her to get some sleep. He also tells her not to worry--he's going to boil some medicine and bring her down to normal temperature.
