The narrator explains that the soothsayer is a good cover for him. He can complete the mission without provoking suspicion among the other mailmen. He tells the narrator that he needs to shoot on his signal. The narrator is sure that it is a cat, but he can't tell if it is actually a mouse or a mouse-like creature. He asks the narrator to hold off on shooting until he hears the sound of something coming. He is surprised that the messenger has not told him anything. He also realizes that he is much better at bed than the messenger.
