About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that Lin-jinzi has turned into a demon, and that he's been feasting on the bodies of those who've come to kill him. We learn that the body Lin-Jinzi is feasting on is the body of a man who's just recently been killed by the authorities. This is the first time we've heard of Lin-Jinzi's death, so we're not sure what's up with him. He's still alive, though, and the authorities don't seem to have anything to do with it. We're also not sure why the authorities didn't just let him go, but why they let him stay for a little longer than he should have. The narrator is all, "what's the matter with him? Didn't we let him out today, so he wouldn't have to stay for so long?" And then he goes on to say, "we have a greedy performance today . . so let's him stay a bit longer" . We get a sense that the narrator is feeling a little paranoid. He can't figure out why there's so much going on in the body, and he wonders if it's because the authorities are trying to trap him.
