In this chapter, we learn that the seven personalities have all been killed off, but the ghost of M. Manette is still around. She can still sense her brother's mind and body, but she seems to be able to control him too. She's also able to sense his emotions, which is why she's able to see him so clearly. She wants to know where his brothers and sisters have gone, and why he hasn't seen them for three years. He says he's had plenty of time to think about his situation, and he wants to go back to where he came from. He wants to kill his annoying sister, but he doesn't want to do it because it would be too risky, he says. He's going to the "ghost market," which is a place where people go to buy and sell things. He has a stamp that's up for sale, but no one wants to buy it. He can't figure out how to sell other stamps in his album, so he has to figure out a way to sell them all at once.
