In this chapter, we learn that the factory was once a slave-holding place, but that it was forced to become a place where people could live like human beings. The factory's workers were forced to work for a living, and the wages they earned were used to improve the lives of the factory workers. This man is the key to the success of the side mission, because he has the authority to do whatever he pleases with the factory. But he is bound to be defeated by a "manlike" like him, and so he can't use him to his advantage. He thinks that if he tries to contact him, he'll draw his attention to himself, and then he can use the man's influence to change the tide.
