In this chapter, we're introduced to a new character, a young woman named Hannah. She's the heroine of the novel, and she's a bit of a wild card in the novel's plot. We're also introduced to some of the other characters who populate the novel. For example, we learn that the guy who saved Hannah is a scientist, and that he's using sound waves to control his experiments. We also learn that a lot of the babies in this novel are being used for human experimentation. We learn that Hannah's baby is one of these babies, and it's been abandoned by the baby's parents. Hannah is horrified at the idea that the baby is being used as a tool to control its own actions.
