In this chapter, we learn that Zhuang's diary was burned, and that the only clue to the location of the shelter is that it is in a cave. In order to find it, the group needs to go to the cave at dawn, and Zhuang tells them to listen to him. He tells them that he has written a list of the people who want to go, and he wants them to follow him when he goes to the shelter at dawn. Zhuang asks if they can just stay there and wait for the shelter to be found, but Zhuang says that they can't, because there is no way to protect them from the monsters. He says that if they cannot find the shelter, then they will live in the cave, since the owner of the diary lived there for many years. He also says that he is the one who wasted the sacrifice of his life by not giving Zhuang the opportunity to bring them to safety.
