In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named "Flip" . He is a young man who has just returned from a trip with his family. He has just received a strange gift from a mysterious guest. The gift is a small box, which he is unable to open because his hand has been bitten by something. He wonders if there is something inside the box that he has not seen before. He recalls a dream he had when he was young, in which he came back to his hometown and his childhood friends. He begs them to come and help him, but they refuse. He tells them that he was bitten by a strange creature, and that he had dreamed about his beloved, whom he had not seen for a long time. He throws the box out, but it appears again in front of the window.
