In this final chapter, we learn that the masked man who brought the family to the foggy island once told Gu that he could not forget the taste and smell of bloodworms. He also said that he would always look for them, even after he had left the island. Gu tells us that he and his sister escaped from the island two years ago, and that they are now back on it.
