The Underground Man tries to find out what's going on in the catacombs, but he can't figure out where he's supposed to go. He's worried that the ground is sinking, and he wonders if it's the tomb of the ancient Theodorian royals. He wonders if they'd be able to get out of the catacombs if it were the royal tomb, and the Underground Man thinks that's a good idea.
