About This Chapter
In this soliloquy, Desdemona asks the audience to raise a toast to the gods of wine, love, beauty, and war. She promises to stand beside the goddess of love and beauty, aldana, as she raises a toast. The crowd cheers her, and she is followed by a silence. She tells the crowd that they hate her simply because she is the "theodorian scum" who seduced King Lear and stole his heart. She reminds them that their hatred stems from the fact that they are stuck in a "veinful cycle of pain" and that they do not enjoy "enslaving" others. She says that she is not a different person from the other sagarians, and that she does not enjoy being enslaved. She adds that the rain is finally coming and that he has been waiting for it. He tells the audience that the drought was caused by his lack of food and that it was also the "karesques rebellion" which was also caused by drought.
