About This Chapter
The battle is over, and King Angnois has broken his sword. He orders his men to make a knife out of the pieces of the blade, using the fragments to adorn it with a ruby. It is rumored that the ruby has fallen from the heart of a lion during the battle, and that the king has given Angnotis his own dagger. The child wonders why a king would give his own "personal effects" to an ordinary child, and wonders why he would want to travel so far to be with his "study companion" . He wonders how the king could leave without his permission, and he wonders why the king would bestow his own personal effects on an "ordinary child"
