About This Chapter
This chapter's epigraph comes from a famous line from Shakespeare's play Hamlet, in which Hamlet says, "I'm not afraid, I'm just afraid of what's in front of me." In this passage, Hamlet tells the audience that he's going to remove the shackles from the prisoners' necks. He's got the key to the prison, and he wants to get his men out of there. He says that even if they manage to escape, the city gates of the eastern empire are guarded. The city walls of the western empire are also guarded, he says. The prisoners from the west have escaped, and they're still being held in prison. Hamlet tells his men to follow his lead and follow him. He tells them to open the gates to let the prisoners out.
