In this short scene, the Governess explains to Victor why he has not eaten her. She tells him that she has made a mistake by killing the villagers, the tourists, and even "xia" . The Governess's hands are "stained with blood" , and she does not exist and keep Victor alive. She tries to convince him to eat her, but he refuses, saying that he has no heart to leave him at the lake alone. He tells her that he always thought he was coming back to "seek revenge," but that he did not understand that she wanted his company. He is surprised to find that the hotel is different from the impression he got outside. He asks if he needs special service, and the hotel says that it looks like he has consumed a "lot of life force." He says that he does not have the power to hide his ears now, and that he will kill him if he finds that one human is not enough for him. He also says that the academy allows its students to go off campus for the night, and he tells the headmaster of the situation
