In this chapter, we learn that the mermaids didn't survive the experiment because they couldn't figure out how to make the blood last longer. The mermaids, however, did manage to get the blood they needed, and they're happy about it. They've been together for five years now, and the only thing they can't talk about is the fact that they haven't seen each other in five years. The two of them talk about how much they love each other, and how they'd like to stay together until they lose track of the years they've spent together. One day, the mermaid says, he wants to stay in the water with the mermaid, because he doesn't want to go to the town because he's sick. He wants to be with her, and to see the world together.
