The next morning, the two men go to the city gate, where they find that the night-souls have set up a huge smokescreen. The two men are surprised to find that they are being watched. They are also surprised to learn that the older brother of the King of Night-Souls is also in the city. The men decide to go and have a meal at the city's secret weapons factory, hoping to catch a glimpse of what the place looks like. They also decide to let the younger brother, earl fuling, "fall in love" with them. Hearing the men's conversation, they decide to follow them and kill them.
