In this chapter, the young man tells us that he's not going to let the Empress dowager get what she wants. He's going to kill the guy who's trying to put him in trouble. The Empress, he says, is "such an evil- minded person" . The only way he can do this is to sacrifice the guy. Since everyone thinks he'll be the illegitimate son, if he kills the guy, the rumors will fall away. He doesn't think it's a good idea, though, because the Emperor will be suspicious of killing him. The Emperor, he tells us, is too powerful to be killed by a young man. He thinks killing the guy is the fastest way to get rid of the rumors. He says he would have killed the guy if he'd been treated the same way, but he can't do it now. He adds that the Emperor is suspicious, too, and that's why the rumors are spreading so fast. The young man says he knows how to do this now, and he tells the Empress that she's really his treasure. He tells her that he can succeed in anything he wants to do with her. The next thing he plans to do is find a woman and have her perform a ceremony for heaven.
