In this short scene, we learn that the Ming family is mourning the death of their mother, and that they have invited the Prime Minister to dine with them. The Prime Minister has come to pay his respects to the family, and to offer his hand to the Mings. He has also come because he is in love with one of the Ming women, and he wants to marry her. He asks the King to grant him the title of "Princess."
