In this short scene, Madame Bovary and Madame Guinevere discuss the events of the previous day, which took place at the mansion. Madame Bogar tells Madame Guievere that she was sent by the lady to the mansion on purpose to accept a non-inferiority promise from the liu, and Madame Guignol was sent on this mission on the instructions of the lady, who wanted to protect her son from harm. The liu then whipped the boy and locked him in a cage with wolves in order to "make him obedient" and to make him play "arcade" with the other children. The scene ends with Madame Guigore's declaration of her love for the boy, who is getting increasingly close to her.
