At a party, people were asking about the relationship between fan and his ex-girlfriend, and the narrator was embarrassed and humiliated by the attention. The narrator tells us that she had to start courting him after she found out that he had broken off his relationship with the girl. She says that she tried to pretend that she did not know him when she saw him again, but now that she thinks about it, she realizes that she was too stupid to know him.
