It's been seven years since the last time we saw each other, and now we're back in the present. We're interrupted by a knock at the door, and then we find out that it's Mr. Lorry, who's just come to pick up his daughter, bai, from the orphanage. He's so excited to see her that he's even going to eat and sleep like a baby, which makes us wonder what's going on between him and his daughter. He tells us that he doesn't trust his father-in-law, and that's why he came to the orphanage to help bai. We learn that the two of them are going to meet the next morning, and Mr. Lindell is going to try to convince his daughter that she's lucky to have a father like him again, even though he hasn't seen her in seven years. We get the feeling that this isn't going to be the case, and we learn that his daughter's father has a "mania for marriage" .
