About This Chapter
Once more, the teacher tells the principal that if something bad happens to her student, she'll have to leave the school. This time, however, it's not her fault. The father of the student, Mingchen, was drunk when he saw Mingchen and another student having an affair. Mingchen's father slapped Mingchen in the face, but Mingchen didn't deserve to be slapped like that, since he was a good kid. The teacher is outraged, and she demands to know what's going on. She's also outraged that the teacher is supposed to be in charge of the school's grade- 11 students. She asks the teacher if he's ever paid any attention to his students, and the teacher responds that he has. She also accuses the teacher of being too proud to take responsibility for the incident, and says that Mingchen is an obedient student. She tells the teacher that she's sorry about what happened, but she won't take any responsibility for her son's behavior. She promises to make a complaint to the education bureau, which is the government agency that deals with child abductions and other serious crimes.
