About This Chapter
It's the morning of the first day of class at the school, and the Governess tells her students that Miss Xun is a "real nice man" except that she is "a bit fierce" . The Governess says that she's so glad to be a teacher, because she can't stand up on her own, and that her right foot hurts. She tells the boy that he's very kind to her, and she tells him that she gave him the jellyfish from the Haunted House because she kept a secret about him. The boy says that he gave the jellyfish to her because he wanted to give her a "girl gossipy look" , which he'd never been able to give a girl before. He's always considered girls "troublesome," he says, and he doesn't like girls who are too close to him. His dad comes in and says that his wife is in the hospital, and they've invited a young man to stay over for dinner. He says that the young man helped his wife get free eggs at the grocery store, so they invited him to stay for dinner as well. He tells her that he is coming over to visit her in-laws this weekend, because he heard some stories about her from her dad when he was a kid. He asks her why she feels so "naggy," and she says that it's because she is envious of her brother, who has a lover.
