"Proof of Life" is the title of this chapter's soliloquy. The narrator muses on how lucky he is to have survived the "tsunami" . He wonders how he came to be so lucky. He says that he is only human, and that he can do nothing to stop his mother nature. Still, he says, there is one thing he can try to do: "getting back up" when life knocks him down. He tells us that he and his friends have gathered here to take on the "monsters" of the world. They are all stronger and wiser than they were before. They take down "the monster" , and the narrator says, "you got points !" . Um, what? Um, you got a side choke! Um, why did you give it away ? Um , you gave it away, too late. Um says, no, you just need one arm to do the side choke , which is why you need only one arm. Um then says that the last kick broke a rib, and he says that if he were to go down, he'd be able to "go out in a blaze of glory !"
