About This Chapter
It's the beginning of the amateur shooto season in Japan, and this is the first time we've heard of the tournament. The tournament is called "koshien," which means "high school baseball tournament," and it's going to be held in every major city in the country. We're told that the tournament is open to all high school boys and girls, regardless of their social class. This is a big deal, because it means that you're competing against other top amateur fighters from all over the country, and you have to win all four of your matches in a single day to be the champion. This means you've got to beat the best of the best in order to win the tournament, and that's a tough task. The guy who's supposed to represent Japan in this tournament, Yudai, is injured, but he's still good enough to fight for the title. He's got a good striking base, and he'll be tough to beat. The other guy, Miguru, is a bit of a slouch, but Miguru thinks that he has a good chance of winning the tournament because of his "solid judo base" and his "right straight" punches. Miguru says that Miguru's only problem is that he doesn't stand out in his own right, which is why he hasn't been picked to represent the country at the tournament so far. The next guy, Kensuke, is also a good fighter, but not as good as Miguru. Kensuke's knee is in a bad spot, and Miguru is worried about his knee, too. The two of them talk about the upcoming tournament, which will be held
