About This Chapter
Ten years have passed, and Rinehart is still in high school. He has just won a gold medal in a high-level tournament, but he's worried about his opponent's stamina. He doesn't know what to expect from her, since she's so fast and so strong. He's also worried that the upper-class men will find her "pigging out" at a corner store and "drag her ass" back to practice. He wonders if the earthquake and the ensuing "earthquake and reactor disaster" are still going on, and he wonders what he wants to do with his life. He says he used to be picked on because he was so tiny, but since he was a junior fighter at the Olympics, he was always free to play his cards the way he wanted to. Now, he thinks, he ruined the life of a guy who was about to be married. He knows, though, that happiness can always come at a price.
