The narrator is shocked to learn that the navigation system of the ship has suffered a severe loss of power, and that the ship's crew has been forced to return to the mainland. He is angry that the incident has taken place so soon after the launch, but he is reassured by the narrator's promise that he will reward each of the crew members with a certain amount of money. He then tells the narrator that he has heard about the abduction of his daughter and that he must go and rescue her.
