The next morning, the two of them go for a walk, and the narrator asks the latter if he heard the other's voice. The narrator says that he did, but that he didn't know what it was. He asks the narrator to tell him what he heard, and he tells him that it was the voice of the woman he was talking to. He tells the narrator that he should have been more attentive to the woman's needs, and that he would have liked to have had more time with her.
