About This Chapter
The narrator introduces us to Guo ji, the eldest son of the late Emperor. Guo tells Guo that he is a gentleman, and that he has come to ask for a favor from the emperor. He asks Guo what his conditions are, and Guo answers that he wants to know why the emperor ordered the prince of Chang'an to go tochang'an. He also asks why Guo is not allowed to hug the emperor, kiss him, or kiss anyone else. He says that if the emperor really values Guo, he will not touch Guo until they are married. If Guo ever fails to fulfill his promise, Guo promises that he will lose his happiness forever. The emperor asks if there is any beauty in the banquet that Guo planned to hold, and the narrator tells him that there is no wine, no music, and no dancing. He adds that if there were beautiful people around Guo's arms, the wine would have a taste to it. He then introduces Guo to another man, who introduces him to the emperor's grandson, gao ji.
