In this chapter, Zhang tells the story of his brother ling, who has been suffering from a nightmare. He tells Zhang that his mother used to sing to him, and that one day, when he was five years old, his third brother took him to live in the city of Quing. The city was beautiful, but he didn't like the people there, because they starved the lions and let them fight with people. Zhang says that if the west of the empire could have a similar empire to the one in the han dynasty, then there would be other countries to the west. He says that he's the first person in the world to believe his stories, because everyone else laughs at his lies.
