About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the wolf and Ling-ling have come to the "end of the Gobi desert" , and that after passing through the field of grass, the territory of Zhao, will be theirs. The children are worried about their safety, and the border patrol tries to stop them, but they refuse to let them go, saying that they are "inordinate travelers" . The wolf tries to calm them down, but the children are too upset to listen. They argue that the roasted meat is from the relatives of the emperor, and they should be allowed to go home. They also argue that their mother is 80, and their father is dead, so they are all brothers. The border patrol refuses to let the children go, claiming that it is an "abominable misunderstanding," and that the meat is for "lord's relatives." The children argue that they have had many issues, and it is not their fault that the border guards took advantage of them. They claim that their parents have been starving to death and that their father has been dead for a long time. The officers threatened to take their land if they didn't pay, and to protect their land, they had to sell their younger sister. When they went to steal food from those with money, they were accused of causing "chaos," and the emperor should be punished for causing such chaos.
