Eight years have passed since the events of the previous chapter, and the Governess still laughs at his jokes. The guards of the carriage are armed with bows and arrows. The Governess tells the guards to stay inside the carriage and not to shoot at the intruders. She tells them to "catch them alive" , but they do not heed her words. She says that everyone is a "master" and that she cannot hold on to her position for long. She warns the guards that the intruders mistook the carriage for an assassin's party. They fired arrows at her and her companions, but the guards mistook them for assassins. They did not heed the words of her warning, and she is done for if she stays in the carriage.
