In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named "Piggy" . She is the daughter of a wealthy, well-to-do Hong Kong family. Her father, a wealthy businessman, is a frequent visitor to the Hong Kong home of her father's sister, the wealthy widow "Shu'er." She is also the mother of a young man named "Big Brother" , who is the brother of the wealthy Hong Kong businessman "Peng Shui." The two of them have pledged to marry each other, but Shu'er refuses to be married to her brother-in-law because she does not want to be associated with a woman who does not have power or wealth. She also refuses to marry her sister because she is afraid that she will not be able to support her son if he does not marry her.
