About This Chapter
The next morning, the beggar is still in the street. He tells the boy that he's not a bad guy, and that he thought that sister Hetty was trying to tease him. The beggar says that he doesn't want to hurt Sister Hetty, because he thinks that she's a good person. He also says that the brother and sister have been talking about him all afternoon. He says that it's rare for a brother to talk about a sister all the time. He adds that he is in the lowest class of merchants in the city. He asks the beggar if he needs his help, and the beggar tells him that he almost cut his hand when he pawned his uncle's precious jade pendant. The pawnshop owner gave the pendant back to the beggar, but the beggar had to pay the original price. He's happy that the pawnshop guy gave him back the pendant, but he says that this is unreasonable.
