The narrator and his friend go for a walk on an island in the Adriatic Sea, where the narrator's city, Neovenezia, is located. They encounter a shrine dedicated to the god of the fox, which the narrator describes as being "very mischivous" . The narrator tells his friend to be careful because the fox is trying to take people into its own world, and he warns him not to follow the fox or else he'll never get back to the real world. He also tells the friend to think of the sun shower as the first time he's seen such a thing, and to run away from the rain so he can look for his friend, who's nearby. He's a little freaked out by the sight of a procession of foxes, which reminds him of his friend's wedding.
