About This Chapter
Back on the boat, the captain chats with a young woman named aria. She's a member of the company called orange planet, and she's excited to be back on the water. The captain tells her that they're going to practice on the river, but they haven't made any progress. Aria is psyched, but the captain doesn't know what to make of her. He tells her to turn around and eat alone, but she won't listen. She tells the captain that he's too old to be a cadet, so he'll have to go back to his company, orange planet. She also tells him that her company is as big a business as his company is, and that he has to row them back to the starting line. He's not happy about that, and he tells her he'd rather be eating alone. She says she'll tell him what's wrong with her company, but he won1t listen to her. She doesn1t seem to care, and the captain says she should be more aware of her company1s "rigid hierarchy" , which means that she shouldn1t be allowed to do anything she isn1t supposed to do. He asks her to tell him why she is so rude to the senior crew members. He says he can1t blame her for being so rude, because they all get jealous of his rowing skills. They all start to row back and forth, and then the captain loses track of them. He starts to lose track of the other crew members, too, and starts to wonder if they all went back to their homes. He
