About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Rakan's "depleted uranium kick" has caused him to fall apart midair, and that he has been tricked into exchanging his "base fisti cuffs" for a "new body" . Rakan, however, is still able to survive this kind of damage because of his "brilliant design" , which enables him to "survive such damage" by using "stopgap joints . . stopgap joints" in the air . But now that he's got a new body , Rakan is going to have to use his "last resort" : he'll need to "use my last resort" on the giant that's about to emerge from the jungle. He's not going to be able to do it on his own, he says, because the giant is too big for the arena and the weight of the arena is tipping the scales against him. The giant is a "great guignol" specially created for the match, and Rakan knows this. He hopes Rakan will cheer him on and live with him in peace, because they're "fated" to live only "as we were designed." Rakan realizes that the "true value" of super-electro-magnetic karate lies in the ability to manipulate the atmosphere . This is a move he couldn't do while he was sharing the field with his allies, and now he can use it to his advantage.
