The chapter opens with a description of a solar flare, a geomagnetic storm, and an impact winter. Ten years have passed since the last time we saw the city of Transylvania. It's been a long time since we've seen the city, and now that winter has arrived, it's time for the city to be brought back to life. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by a vampire named vilmafachiri, who explains that she's a cognate of the human race, and that she left her homeland when she was a vampire. She's now living in the land of the undead, and she'd like to be friends with the humans.
