The narrator tells us that he first met Duvall when he was studying abroad at a medical school in reptile. She was the daughter of the duvall family, and she was considered the most beautiful person in the school. Duvell used to be the model student in the war, and the narrator couldn't believe that she would do anything so harsh to her fellow soldiers. He's promoted to a non-commissioned officer, and he's holding a broken-down camera on his neck. He asks the sergeant if he can fix it, but the sergeant says he can't, because the camera belongs to another soldier in his unit. The narrator says he'll just get a new one later, so he won't have to use the old one anymore.
