About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which the narrator explains that he was certain that the woman in front of him was dead, but that she came back "in tatters" . The narrator is shocked to learn that this woman is not dead at all. He realizes that she has a "death wish" , and that she is trying to kill him. He asks her if she really wants to die, and she responds that she does not want to die. He tells her that he has come to the war zone just to get killed, and he asks her how she could have jeopardized the lives of other soldiers if she had come to such a dangerous place. He reminds her that she had asked him to take care of her when she was wounded, and now he wants her to teach him a lesson
