This chapter opens with a flashback to a dream in which Dr. Rivers is in the middle of treating a patient when a woman appears in his dream and squeezes him. Rivers realizes that this is a dream, but he doesn't know what to make of it. He thinks that the woman is just trying to get him to have sex with her, and that she's just using dirty gestures to get her way. He's not joking, though, when he says that the dream is just like the real thing. He says that he can't really remember what happened that day, because he drank so much that he couldn't finish all of his work that day. The woman is looking for him, and he's worried that she won't be able to remember all of the details of that day's events. He wonders why everyone in the room didn't tell him what happened, and wonders why they didn' t ask more questions before the woman left. He asks the woman if she was hurt anywhere, and she says that she looked a bit uncomfortable, but that's because she was taking a break after moving some supplies. Rivers asks if they met the day before, and the woman says that they did. Rivers tells the woman that he thought he would appeal to her because he heard her type was a blonde doctor, but now that he hears her type is a captain, he feels a little rejection.
