About This Chapter
The next morning, the two of them try to figure out what's wrong with the sleeping woman. They're both worried that she's going to freeze to death if they don't wake her up quickly. The two try to find out why her body temperature is dropping so fast, but they can't figure out the cause. They both realize that they've never been able to have a "natural conversation" with each other, and they're worried that they won't be able to keep the conversation going. They argue about whether or not they should have asked each other if they knew this was coming, and then they start arguing again. The only thing that keeps them going is that they both want to die, and that's why they came to the battlefield in the first place. It's because of a mistake, he says, and he doesn't think he can atone for it by dying. He says that he's not a "toy" for her to soothe his pain, but that she is "nothing to me" and that she should live her life as it is given to her.
